Asiatic Lion Lodge- Sasan Gir is truly committed to its pledge for eco-tourism. We strongly believe We are part of the natural system not above it. Our Eco-Friendly Practises are as following.
Design, Construction & Permissions
Asiatic Lion Lodge- Sasan Gir is designed in such a sustainable way that during construction minimum of the land contours are disturbed, natural water ways are kept as it is. Not even a single tree was cut for project. Construction is done with special blocks made of lime, quarry waste and sand with ancient lime milling process with the help of locals. Asiatic Lion Lodge is also in compliance with all Forest & Environment laws as well as Land use & Revenue laws with all relevant permissions.
Local Participation
We believe local people are the vital key that can shape the future of the forests. Their participation, experience and ground expertise can help conserve the wildlife. To protect our forests, we enable them to improve their ability to earn livelihoods and thus help to enhance their standards of living. We are employing and procuring locally whenever possible & opt for locally grown and sourced food. We encourage and educate our guests to a glimpse of the native skills, social and cultural practices and their way of life through village visits. Very often we organise Local Siddi Tribal Dance which is a unique cultural experience for guest and a good livelihood generator for the Siddi Tribes.
Energy Conservation
Design is such that minimum electric light is used in day time and maximum sun light can be used. Roof has 3 layers of natural insulation and walls are of 12 inch thick and constructed using lime stone blocks to keep building cool in summers and warm in winters, even this increase AC efficiency. All the AC are with 3-star BEE rated. We use LED lights in the Lodge. Solar Street Lights are used for outdoor & Public area lighting. Water Geysers are 5-star BEE rated.
Water Conservation
Only lodge in Gir area with Root Zone Technology STP plant to recycle all the grey water & the recycled water is used in Gardening in lodge. A small check dam in nearby rain water stream to conserve rain water. Moreover, we Use Sprinklers for our greens, all the bathrooms have water saving taps, showers & dual flush system to save water. We store & use RO waste water for cleaning of big utensils in kitchen wash area.
Solid Waste Management
At Asiatic Lion Lodge-Sasan Gir we are committed to avoid single use plastics in day-to-day operation. We use reusable Stainless-Steel Bottles for drinking water in rooms as well as in safari with RO water to discourage people to use plastic packaged drinking water bottles. We have an agreement with nearby town Municipality for disposal of solid waste at their landfill site. A small amount of garden waste is used to make compost in nearby farm.
Conservation & Awareness Activities
Every year in monsoon staff and owners of lodge do plantation drive and plant almost 500+ saplings of native plants in nearby areas. Lodge staff members are actively participated in all awareness activity of forest department, e.g., World Lion Day, etc.
